on wednesday I was in my forest ecology lab, and we were looking at inverts that are in leaf litter. there were SO MANY springtails! and the cool thing is that the subclass collembola is so diverse! this first pic is of a typical springtail. I have no idea what the exact species is, but it has the typical "springy-tail" that allows them to travel pretty far by jumping. this next picture is of two springtails that look totally different. but they're still definitely both springtails despite one missing the "springy-tail." do pardon the cute little feather beetle! bugs (springtails are not insects, they're entognathans)
