Hi hey so I posted my long text into in the main thread, but I thought I'd do a photo intro to my pets here! Lot more fun and lot more colorful!
Starting with the most demanding of my pets, Lucky the orange tabby!
This is literally him right now (well he rearranged himself now, but he's still curled up against me). He follows me around like a lost puppy. His story is a long and sad one. He was born to a stray that found a neighbor's open food bowl eight years ago. The mother rejected the kittens, so my neighbors hand-raised him. Even then he was the only one of the litter to survive. My neighbors just kinda let him roam and because he didn't get along with their 4 other cats he spent most of his time outside. He essentially became the neighborhood stray that people would chase away from their birdfeeders. One day after I saw another neighbor chase him off from her birdfeeder, I decided to try to approach this cat because no one had ever done that. I basically made myself as non-threatening as possible and with some patience he came up to me. Started purring and rubbing on me. When I became too cold (this was in February 2014), I went inside and he sat by my door crying. A few days later when I returned from work I decided to try to call for him. I did and he came bounding across my neighbor's yard, like full tilt. As it turns out the neighbor who claimed him was moving and giving away all of his cats. This orange tabby was the last one he hadn't been able to rehome since he was so skittish. It was a match made in heaven and that orange tabby then became mine. He sticks to me like glue even in our tiny apartment. He's got some quirks from being a semi-stray for so long, but they aren't anything too major. The strangest thing he does is drool. I've spoken to a few vets and they seem to think it's a kitten-like behaviour like "biscuit paws". Such a little cutie.
This is my only fish tank right now. A 29 gallon softwater planted community.
I JUST got the glowlight tetra in after my cardinals died last fall. But I've had those brown kuhli loaches for years. I absolutely love loaches. I got my first kuhlies from WalMart of all places! I'm not too sure but they still might be in that tank. It's really hard to tell the individuals apart. You can't see them well, but I also have a handful of striped kuhlies in there. I love loaches!! ^-^
And last but not least, the pond in Virginia.
It's approximately 3500 gallons and was installed in spring 2007. Believe it or not this started my indoor fishkeeping adventure! I have 6 koi about 7-8 years old. You can't see many of them in this photo, but they're there! I love this place so much. I do get really sad that I don't see it more than a few times a year.
And last but not least (they're kinda like pets) my carnivorous plants! This is my porch lol.
I mostly keep north american pitcher plants. They are just such cool plants, but I won't go on about them too much here. I'll save that for the carnivorous plant forums lol!
The next pet I plan on getting is a snek! But that will be a while. Tight budgets and lack of time rule my life right now. #gradschool
