Hello all! My name is Olimpia and I am a Canadian studying for a degree in organic agriculture. My hopes is to move on to either be an exotic animal vet, or to help design and promote urban agriculture systems (such as aquaponics, backyard gardens and livestock, vertical farms) in cities. Recently I have lost some interest in animals and have taken up a liking to plants (uh oh), currently I am co-president of my universities horticulture club and am loving it in the greenhouses, so that may turn into a thing.
Fishkeeping used to be my stronghold, and I moderated a pair of popular aquarium forums for a few years before stepping away due to internal issues. I've not joined a forum community since then, so this is a bit exciting.
My 'main' pets are my 3 ferrets. Edward is a 1 and a half year old I bought at a pet shop last summer. This summer I picked up 2 four year old rescue males which I've named Wolfgang and Sinbad. They are currently free roam in my apartment bedroom and I currently am going insane trying to contain their potty habits properly. Wolfgang also has insulinoma. Left to right: Edward, Wolfgang, Sinbad.
Better photo of Edward. The rescues sleep together on the ground but Edward sleeps with me in bed..
I also have 3 male betta in my apartment with me. Natsu, Grey, and Elfman (woo Fairy Tail names). They are in a divided 10 gallon, hopefully soon I am going to be purchasing a rimless tank to spread them out a little more and give them more space. I actually don't have any good photos but they are all VTs aha.
Back at my parents house I have a 90 gallon tank with 6 fancy goldfish. My ball python, Mr. Snake, also lives there, he is my oldest pet now (he's about 10 I guess!). As my parents have only been feeding him in tank he has become pretty cage aggressive, but is still nice once you get him out.
I also 'have' a dog which I do not enjoy, she is my 4 year old dobermann girl. She is a fearful dog (well, has improved by leaps and bounds) and she is bonded to my father and can't stand me.
My outdoors animals are not really pets because they are raised for utility, but we do keep coturnix quail and a dozen or so rabbits as well.
I'll share a few photos anyways though... My Oz used to be my most promising male, until I goofed and didn't latch not one, but two cages properly overnight. Resulting in two males escaping and him being the loser of the fight, he got his testicles mangled up. So after a fun and expensive emergency neuter he is now genetically dead to me. But he always was my favourite... This breed has become so rare in the east that I have had no luck in locating more animals to expand my gene pool lately.
And this is a coturnix chick I hatched out a week before leaving for school:
If I ever have time and space I'd love to try my hand at raising English angoras. I also would love to own a lungfish someday... I love tropical birds and rodents as well but ferrets are too time consuming and murderous to have any around.
